A BEAR OF A PROBLEM (Snow White and Rose Red flash fiction!)

Well look at me. It's been a minute since my last fairytale-inspired flash fiction. So here I am now, posting this late in the month and late in the day. xD

Anyway! Yes, today I'll be sharing a flash fiction piece inspired by the prompt over on Intuitive Writing Guide, inspired by this month's fairytale at Fairytale Central! And this month's fairytale is Snow White and Rose Red, which is one that I wasn't too familiar with.

I'm pretty sure I had read it before (in that big book you see in the above photo), but I didn't remember anything about it until I read it this month. And it's SUCH a sweet story! It's about sisters who love each other and are actual sweet human beings and it's just such a refreshing turn from the same old, same old girl-meets-boy story that most fairytales have.

I have to admit, this month's prompt was a bit tricky to work it. At least for me. But maybe that's because I waited until the last possible second to write my piece for it. And I'm not going to lie, this month's chapter of Trentley and Jynnia's story is pretty ridiculous and convoluted. xD I'm trying not to take these stories I write for the fairytale prompts too seriously, as in not stress out over making them perfect and tying up every loose end. Even though I plan to write a series based on the characters and situations in these stories, those will definitely be very different and I'll put a lot more thought into planning those. It really is just a fun writing activity and I've definitely been having fun, so hopefully you guys will enjoy even if it is senseless. xD

Here's the prompt:

And you can find the original post here.

Also, I have to say that I kind of tweaked the prompt just a tiiiiny bit because of the direction I wanted to go with the story. Hopefully no one will mind. ;D

Anyway! Enough of my rambling. Here's this month's story, inspired by Snow White and Rose Red!
Hope you enjoy!

      ***
"Why is there nobody who can tell us what this jewel means?"
Jynnia clutched the red jewel in her hands, willing the strength of her fingers to either force answers out of it or destroy the blasted thing once and for all.
Trentley crumpled up the business card of the fortune teller whose tent he had just come from. Turned out, she only knew the future and not the meaning of magical objects. Although he seriously doubted her abilities, as she had predicted he was going to leave Jynnia and join her circus.
"Trouble is, nobody's going to believe we got this thing from a genie unless they're crazy," Trentley said. "Which is why we're limited to fortune tellers and devoted magicians."
"And none of them know anything." Jynnia kicked up dust as they walked through the various circus performers around them.
"We'll find someone who can help us," Trentley said, resting an arm around her shoulders as they walked. "We have to. The genie may not have told us the answer we wished for, but he gave us this jewel. And that means that somehow, it will give us our wish eventually."
Jynnia grumbled but did not oppose the theory.
The sun was hot on all the tents around them, so they strolled toward the nearby forest. Jynnia could feel eyes on her as they exited the circus area, and glared around to see who might be watching them. Her gaze slipped over almost everyone at first, but then darted back to someone she had missed before.
There was a little person, an old man who could not have been over three feet tall, standing just outside one of the tents. Watching her and Trentley go. He did not look hostile, but his face wore something like suspicion. Jynnia tensed as she made eye contact with him. She did not like being watched.
 "What's wrong?" Trentley asked.
Jynnia turned quickly to look at him. "I'll tell you in a minute. Hurry up." And she pulled him faster toward the woods.
"What?" Trentley demanded once they were within the cover of the trees.
"That dwarf back there," she said. "Did you see him? He was watching us!"
"Yes, well, we didn't exactly belong there," Trentley said.
"No, I mean watching us! Like we had... something... he wanted." Her voice fell at the same time as her gaze, which dropped down to the object still in Trentley's hand. He looked down, too, and then they looked up at each other in alarm.
"Maybe he knows something," Trentley said.
They turned and were just about to run back to the circus when they saw the little dwarf ambling through the trees toward them.
"Who are you?" Jynnia demanded, at the same time Trentley said, "Hello!"
"Hello," the dwarf said, nodding. "My name is Barnen."
"I'm Trentley, and this is Jynnia. Do you know anything about this?" Trentley held his palm out with the jewel in it. Jynnia gasped and began to snatch it out of his hand--what a rash decision he had made!-- but changed her mind and stood still, hoping that Trentley knew what he was doing.
The dwarf started and reached for the jewel. Trentley closed his hand and pulled back.
"Answer my question first," he said.
Barnen sighed. "Fine. Since it's in your possession, I suppose you have at least some right to know." He pointed at Trentley's clenched fist. "That belonged to my brother. It was one of the many unique jewels he lost upon his death. That stupid bear took the jewels when he killed my brother, but I've been traveling the land trying to find them all. They were very important to him, you know."
"Wait, what?" Jynnia exclaimed. "What bear? What are you talking about?"
"The bear who killed my brother to save those two wretched girls," Barnen said, venom shooting from every word. Jynnia backed away a step. This little man's temperament had risen about sixteen notches in two minutes.
She narrowed her eyes at him. "Well, we--"
Trentley put a hand out to stop her. "Two girls?" he said. "Are you speaking of the tale about the sisters who met a bear and were rescued from a..." He looked the man up and down-- it was a short trip-- and hesitated.
"It is no tale, but a true account," Barnen said. "And since those very important jewels were spent, spread across the land, it has been my life's mission to recover them all. When I found my first, I was able to curse all the rest, that it might be easier to find them."
 "Curse them... how?" Trentley asked.
"By bestowing on them past events of magic!" Barnen shouted. "I knew it would draw attention. I know the world today generally does not believe that all the fairytales, as you call them, were indeed true. But I know better, and so now anybody who is in the presence of one of these jewels will have to answer to some form of magic from those stories."
Jynnia looked at Trentley. "The tower," she whispered.
"And the lamp," Trentley said. He looked back at the dwarf with his head tilted. "But this has happened to us twice. We didn't see any jewels."
"Twice!" The dwarf stomped his foot. "You have come across my jewels twice-- no, three times now, and I have only found one?" He rubbed his bearded chin and mumbled, "There must be quite a spread of them around these parts. Guess I'll have to stick around." He shook his head and looked up. "Trust me, boy, if those things happened to you, there were jewels around. They could be anywhere, you know. Hidden away in that tower you spoke of. Along the countryside. Anywhere. And now..." He leapt forward and began to pry Trentley's hand open. As he struggled he ground out with a red face, "This one will make you regret ever seeking answers!"
Eventually the little man's concentrated strength won out over Trentley's fingers trying to conceal the jewel. The dwarf cried, "Ha!" and then took off in the other direction. He skidded to a stop and turned around. "Your curse for this one will be arriving any moment now!" he yelled. "Get ready!"
They watched him go, seeing little point in following him.
 "Well, that happened," Jynnia said.
Trentley groaned. "Now what?" he said. "Are we just doomed to keep going through life discovering these jewels and going through all these fairytale things?"
"I don't know," Jynnia said. "It doesn't seem like that one did anything."
Suddenly Trentley coughed, deep and loud. "Are you okay?" Jynnia said. It was a very unnatural sound that had just come out of his mouth.
He smiled wearily. "Yeah. Guess I just had a hairball."
Jynnia wrinkled her nose and laughed. "Eww!"
"Must be left over from that enchantress I met a few weeks ago with all that hair..."
She laughed again and placed a hand dramatically over her heart. "Why couldn't you have fallen in love with a human, like normal guys?"
He was about to respond when suddenly, in a flurry of splitting seams and flying fur, he found himself growing. Growing in size. Growing fur and claws.
And a few moments later, there he was, a great beast in the middle of the woods with a fair maiden. She looked at him in alarm, wide-eyed and ready to flee should his demeanor have changed.
But he simply looked at her and said, "Says the one crushing on a bear."

LOL. XD

This installment of The Adventures of Trentley and Jynnia is definitely the silliest. But I don't know, I kind of enjoyed writing a totally ridiculous dwarf and pulling the fairytale world into the real world.

What'd you think of this month's fairytale flash fiction? Would you have such a chill reaction if you turned into a bear? xD And have you been taking part in these prompts? If so, link to your post in the comments so I can read!

Thanks for reading!

Mid Year Book Freakout Tag!

HELLO AND HAPPY THURSDAY.

I've been seeing this bookish tag going around the blogosphere and so naturally I had to jump in on it. I feel like I may be a little late to the game since we're over halfway through July now... but it's fine. Shh.

Soo, anyway, here it is: the Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag! I actually love that such a tag exists because isn't freaking out about books basically all we do around here?

(Also, I tried really hard not to repeat anything... but this post is now a fan letter for the Out of Time series.)

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2019. I have to give this one to A Time to Speak by Nadine Brandes. This was the only book I read this year (or maybe ever) that literally left me speechless. It was just SO good.

2. Best sequel you've read so far in 2019. THIS IS ALREADY SO HARD. *dies* Buut I'll go with Broken Wings by Shannon Dittemore. I don't know if the second book in a trilogy is teeechnically considered a sequel? But we'll roll with it.

3. New release you haven't read yet, but want to. ROMANOOOOOOV. romanovromanovromanovromanovromanovroma

I neeeeeed it
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year. I'm actually not sure when this one releases? But I'm looking forward to The Piper's Pursuit by Melanie Dickerson. (even though I haven't read The Warrior Maiden yet...)

5. Biggest disappointment. The Radiant Road by Katherine Catmull. I was literally so excited when I started this book because the beginning was immediately so eerie and magical and RIGHT DOWN MY ALLEY. And it was really promising for a while, but then it just... took some turns I didn't care for and got pretty weird, and I was just overall disappointed.

6. Biggest surprise. I had another answer first, but after thinking about it I decided to go with The Forgotten Book  by Mechthild Glaser. It was a fun read with a touch of magic, and a really great plot twist I didn't expect. I had my issues with it, but overall it surprised me with the ending.

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you) Nadine Brandes! :D :D :D

8. Newest fictional crush. SOLOMON FROM THE OUT OF TIME SERIES. (I'm obsessed with this series okay)

9. Newest favourite character. Um... Parvin Blackwater. *hides*

10. Book that made you cry. *flops dramatically* MY LIFE HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY THIS BOOK but my answer to this one is A Time to Speak again. I didn't actually cry, but man, I came REAL close to it.

11. Book that made you happy. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine. It's just such a fun, fluffy read and had such a satisfying ending.

12. Most beautiful book you've bought so far this year (or received). The Evaporation of Sofi Snow is pretty gorgeous.

13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year? Oh gosh. Fawkes, Romanov, The Evaporation of Sofi Snow, The Warrior Maiden, and everything in between.

And that's a wrap on the Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag! It was fun, even if 98.9% of my answers were about the same series.

But anyway, thank you guys for reading and freaking out about books with me and I hope you're having a great reading year! Also, I really feel like there are other books coming out this year that I'm forgetting about??? If you know of any good ones to look forward to, let me know!

Have you done this tag? Leave me a link in the comments so I can read your post! Also, what's your favorite book you've read this year? Give me allll the recommendations because my TBR isn't long enough!

It Starts with You and Me

It feels strange writing this.

It feels strange to dedicate a blog post to a celebrity who I am not personally connected to in any way and have never met; someone who has never really impacted my life other than just being someone I liked. Especially since I usually hesitate to put too much admiration on a celebrity because their views are so different from mine and what they stand for often goes against everything I believe.

But someone passed away recently who was a part of one my very favorite stories, a message that touches me deeply.

It probably doesn't come as a big surprise that I am a big fan of Disney. I love the Descendants movies. Maybe they're a little cheesy. But Descendants 2 has always been so special to me. I really do think it's an amazing movie, and contains some of my very favorite fictional characters and relationships.

On July 6, Cameron Boyce, who played Carlos De Vil, passed away. He was only 20.

Why do I feel the need to write this post? Because once more, the reality of life and death hits me, and I have to say something about it. I simply cannot sit still.

Looking back at yesterday
I thought I gave it everything
But still there's so much road ahead of me

These lyrics are from "You and Me", the final song in Descendants 2. This song has always inspired me. The lyrics are amazing and the message is so important. I've always taken from this song the desire to be a light and a change in a dark, dark world. This song reminds us that every individual is important to the world around them and that they can make a change.

Now these lyrics remind me that life can end so, so suddenly. How bittersweet that one of the singers of this song that encourages me to make the world a brighter place for other people, has now left this earth. That fact makes this song's impact that much more powerful.

There's something special that I've learned
It's together we can change the world
Everybody's got something they can bring

When you take a look inside yourself
Do you wish that you were something else
But who you are is who you need to be

I heard these words before and I let them fall to the wayside. I allowed them to change me in moments when it was convenient. In moments where choosing to be extraordinary was easy.

It's never easy. That's the beauty of it.

I am now challenged, more than ever, to bring my light to the world. To treat others with value while they're here because they might not be tomorrow. To make my every interaction with another person the best one that I can make it because you just don't know what will happen after you part.

People have been saying such beautiful things about this young man. About how he was kind and generous and just an incredible friend. And I want to be someone that all those things can be said about, too. More importantly, I want to be someone who always points others to hope in God.

If we all can do our part
We know that it can be the start
To bring about the difference that we need

I promise we can work this out
I promise we can see it through
Don't you know it's up to me
It's up to me and you

We gotta be brave
We gotta be bold
We gotta be free
We gotta get loud
Making that change
You gotta believe
We'll look deep inside
And we'll rise up and shine
We can be bold
We can be brave
Let everyone see
It starts with you and me

Why did this death, seemingly so far away from me, affect me so much?

Because like I mentioned before, this song has always affected me. And now with someone from that song gone, the message is so much more powerful and urgent.

Because I have prayed for this soul many times and I now have no more chances.

Because I am tired of seeing opportunities fall away every time someone dies. Opportunities to let God change me and use me. It's not that this death is any more important than others because it happened to a celebrity. I guess I can't quite completely explain why it's moved me so much. There's still so much more I wish I could express but can't find the words for.

My heart is broken, but I feel a new strength building inside. I am so sad but I am ready to do my part and change the world.

Cameron, I didn't know you as anything but a talented actor. But thank you for being a part of such an important story. I pray that your passing will push me and others to be our best.

Songs for Independence Day!

Hey guys! Happy Independence Day!

Today my and family and I will be enjoying a (mostly) lazy day at home, for which I am VERY thankful. We don't really do anything special until later in the evening, so hopefully throughout the day I can get some writing done! Camp NaNoWriMo is upon us, and I'm trying to get this story to work with me. xD

Anyway, I tried to come up with a creative, patriotic post for today, but I ran out of time, so I decided to just share some patriotic/America themed songs with you. Hope you enjoy, and have a great Fourth of July!

Any other songs I should listen to today? How are you all spending your Fourth of July?

JUNE 2019

Happy summer, guys!

I can't believe it's almost the end of June... and it's summer... and the Fourth of July is almost here. (only two more months til fall!) Hopefully those of you who are still in school are enjoying your vacation, and those of you who aren't are having a good time doing whatever it is you do in the summer. xD

Now for my monthly highlights post! *ignores that ridiculously awkward transition*

READING

Reading was... pretty rough this month.

It's not that I read any bad books. Actually, I finished reading a fantastic book (A Time to Rise by Nadine Brandes) and read another great one, A Thousand Perfect Notes by CG Drews, aka Paper Fury. Unfortunately it did have some language, but I enjoyed the story.

The other book this month is Falcon In the Glass by Susan Fletcher. It's literally taking me weeks to read this thing. And the frustrating thing is that it's not because I'm not enjoying it. The book is actually shaping up to be pretty cool. But I'm just going through a dry spell, I guess, for reading.

I will finish this book by the end of the month, and I think I'm going to like it. I'm just not overly motivated right now. *shrugs*

WRITING

I haven't done a whole lot of writing this month. My dry reading spell dragged with it a dry writing spell.

Buut I AM doing Camp NaNo next month! In hopes to get back into the groove and get some ACTUAL work done on Fall Into Time.

Also, on the subject of Camp NaNo... in case you guys didn't see my Instagram story earlier this week, I really want to be a part of a better cabin this Camp. Last Camp I decided to be randomly assigned to a cabin and it was... pretty unenjoyable. First, I'm not big on throwing myself into situations with a bunch of people I don't know at all, plus some of the content these people were talking about being in their books... I just couldn't get into it. SO if anybody's starting a personal cabin and wouldn't mind me invading on that, let me know. xD

ALSO I just want to say that the day I started Camp NaNo planning for Fall Into Time was June 23rd. WHICH IS THE DAYYYY THAT "THE THING" HAPPENS IN THE STORY. TOTAL coincidence. Blew my mind.

DRAWING

This is a new addition to the monthly highlights posts, and hopefully I'll be able to feature something here every month! I used to draw a lot but haven't done it that seriously in a few years, so I've been enjoying getting back into it. This month I drew two pictures:

Taylor Swift

Asher, from my story Fall Into Time.
Neither one of these is perfect, and I still have some more work to do on Asher. But I'm pretty happy with how they turned out considering how out of practice I am.

LIFE

This month I went to the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.

Noel Neill statue
Batmobile some guy made when he was 17!!
I've been to the Celebration three times before. It's always so fun, especially for a superhero lover like me. ;D This year I got to see Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 movie; and I met Erica Durance, who played Lois Lane on the show Smallville.

Erica Durance
Helen Slater
Me and Erica Durance
Me and my mom went to a local festival celebrating the man who founded our town, and there was this epic pirate ship/play thing for the kids.

Also I had this pineapple lemonade and it was delicious.

I applied to college.

So if all goes according to plan, I'll be starting this fall. *deep breath*

I finished my bullet journal and started a new one!

It's so satisfying looking at it and knowing that I've filled all those pages! Every single day I've lived
since September 1 is recorded somehow within those pages.

Also, unfortunately I don't have any pictures but some guy keeps bringing his pet monkey through the drive-thru where I work and the monkey snuggled me so that's definitely a highlight. xD

Oh, and dog.

BLOGGING

And that's about it! Seems like I had a pretty full month. o.o I hope your June was great! See you in July!

What did you do in June? Are you a summer person or do you prefer to sit in the shade and wait for fall? ;) And of course the important question, who's doing Camp NaNo?

Language of Worlds: SOPHIE

Hey guys! Today I'm  excited and a little intimidated to present another Language of Worlds post!

Why am I intimidated? Well, these things always challenge me to really dig deep into my characters and ask questions I never would have thought to ask. It's great, though, and today I'm answering these questions for Sophie, the protagonist of my book Fall Into Time

So before I get started, in case you didn't know: The Language of Worlds is a really cool linkup created by Liv K. Fisher. You can answer the questions on your blog and add your link with all the others! The original post for this month with all the questions and more details is HERE.

And you can read a little bit more about Sophie and Fall Into Time HERE.

1. Your character goes on a leisurely stroll. Where to?

Sophie's house is surrounded by woods and has a long road leading up to it with trees on either
side. So she would either stroll down that road or maybe through the woods around her house.

2. What's their favorite food? Why? What does it taste like?

I'm not certain about the specifics, but it would be something her mom makes. And it would be some kind of comfort food that she's been eating since she was a kid.

3. Describe their typical day.

She would wake up early and go to work at the Dragon's Cave, a cafe in her hometown. After a full shift waiting tables, she'll go home, catch up on any leftover homework, have dinner, then it's off to night classes. Then when she comes home it's probably a snack and late-night game or talk with her brother before going to bed.

4. When are they most productive? Morning, evening, or sometime in-between?

Probably in the morning. She's definitely a wake-up-early-and-get-stuff-done kind of person.

5. Who are they closest to?

It's a toss-up between her brother Parker and her best friend Lily.

image from pinterest
6. Have they ever lost someone close to them?

Ooooh... this is a really tricky question because of mild spoilers. Yes and no. xD I mean, at the beginning of the book her uncle dies. She's not super close to him, but his death triggers some emotional trauma for her, so it counts.

7. Describe their education.

At the time the story takes place Sophie's in college. Or the Alanderian version of college. I'm still working on some of the details about this. But I think it'll be pretty similar to universities in our world... only with classes about unicorns and earth-powered technology, and gryphons casually parked outside where cars would normally be.

As far as her childhood education, it would be pretty similar. Like I said, schooling is fairly close to how we know it.

8. What is their talent?

She's really good in school and has a way of connecting with people. So she would probably be a really great teacher.

9. When do they doubt themself? What makes them do so?

When she has so much to do and not enough time to do it. She feels like she can't handle everything and just wants to have complete control over her responsibilities.

10. When do they feel most comfortable/cozy?

When she's at home with her family with nothing to do.

A drawing of Sophie I did a year or two back.
And that's Sophie! I hope you liked her and I look forward to sharing more about her and her story in the future. She's really special to me and her story is something that's really important for me to write.

Also, wish me luck because I'm going to TRY to do Camp NaNo again in July! I did it in April to finish Roots to Claim and while I didn't quite finish, I made it to my goal of 15k and brought myself close enough to the end to finish a few weeks later. I'm having a bit of trouble getting back into Fall Into Time after being away from it for months, so I'm hoping Camp NaNo will be the boost I need to get back in full swing. First, though, I've got to actually do some planning to figure out where the heck I need to be going with this story. xD

What did you think of Sophie? Can you relate to any of the things she's dealing with? Have you participated in Language of Worlds? Oh, and would you rather go to a university in Alander than one in our world? xD

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR (Aladdin flash fiction!)

It's that time again-- time for another piece of fairytale-inspired flash fiction thanks to the ladies at Fairytale Central!

In case you forgot, Fairytale Central features a new fairytale every month, and Arielle posts a writing prompt inspired by that fairytale on her writing blog for us to work with! Last month was the super-fun Rapunzel prompt, and this month the fairytale is Aladdin!

Here's the prompt:

In the piece of flash fiction I wrote for last month's prompt, I introduced you all to Trentley and Jynnia: the MC's I will be using for all of these prompts that I participate in, and also the inspiration for a new book series that I will hopefully begin writing later this year. (But shh, don't let me start thinking about that yet!) I couldn't wait to force write these guys into different sticky situations inspired by different fairytales. I hope you guys enjoy my Aladdin story!

(note: Remember that while connected, these stories have no real bearing on each other. I'm just writing them for fun and while I'm using them as inspiration for the series I want to write later, there are plenty of plot holes and untold background information because I repeat: these are just for fun.)

      ***

 "Jynnia, it's a lamp!"
Jynnia huffed and puffed, shifting her yards of thick brown hair to the other arm. She glared at Trentley as he sprinted back toward her, carrying a shiny object he had just retrieved from the creek they walked beside.
"What are we supposed to do with that?" Jynnia said, eyeing the lamp.
"You don't sound as enthusiastic as I'd hoped," Trentley said.
Jynnia groaned and plopped down on the ground right where she stood, dropping her hair and sighing as she stretched her arms. "Sorry," she said. "Carrying around fifty pounds of hair does that to a person."
Trentley sat down beside her on the ground, holding the lamp in front of her excitedly. "Jynnia, don't you understand? We can use this to get rid of your hair!"
"You really think that thing will work?" Jynnia playfully pushed the lamp away and stared off in the other direction.
"Jynnia." Trentley reached to take her chin between his fingers and gently turned her to look at him. When her eyes met his, he tilted his head and raised his eyebrows. "Really?"
She smiled and relaxed a bit, giving a short laugh. "Yeah, I guess if having Rapunzel hair for the past week has taught me anything, it's that strange things can happen."
Trentley winked at her. "Now you're getting it. I'm rubbing this thing."
Jynnia shifted in the grass to face Trentley. Something really awful could happen when he rubbed the lamp. Or, something really cool. Either way, she had a front-row seat.
Trentley placed the lamp between them. They both stared at the object for a few seconds. Trentley inched his hand forward, then jumped back. Then he jumped forward, nearly bumping Jynnia's head with his in his hurry to rub the lamp before he could change his mind again.
A great wind rose up from the mouth of the lamp, knocking Jynnia and Trentley onto their backs.
 "Trentley!" Jynnia cried in alarm.
Trentley sat up. He did not have to look around to see what stood-- floated?-- directly in front of him.
 "So you've summoned me."
The smoky, bluish-tinted figure wavered before them, thick arms crossed over a bare chest. The strange man's face sported a mustache and a sour expression.
"Y-yes." Trentley scooted closer to Jynnia, not taking his eyes off him. "Are you a... genie?"
"Of course I am. You rubbed the lamp, didn't you?" The genie held his hands up, an impatient look on his face. "So what is it you want?"
Trentley and Jynnia shared a look of awe. "You mean we have three wishes?" Jynnia said.
"I'm willing to take some away," the genie said in a warning tone.
"O-okay," Trentley said. He glanced over at Jynnia and then back at the genie, swallowing and standing up. Jynnia stood beside him. "We wish to--"
"Don't say take away my hair!" Jynnia hissed.
"--We wish that Jynnia's hair would go back to its normal length."
The genie lifted a sharp eyebrow and looked at Jynnia's hair as if noticing it for the first time. But he closed his eyes and clapped once. Something like a crash of thunder cracked the very air around them, making Trentley and Jynnia double over and cover their ears. But when it was silent again, they opened their eyes to see that the mass of hair was gone.
Jynnia ran her hands through her short, messy, but natural locks. "Yes!" she cried. "Thank you!"
Trentley breathed a sigh of relief. "All right, genie," he said. "Now for my second wish."
The genie gave a slight bow as he awaited Trentley's request. Jynnia looked at him in surprise. They had barely had time to adjust to this one.
Trentley glanced at her. "I want to know what happened back in that tower."
"You have to say it in wish form," the genie said. "But I must warn you, you're dabbling in very sensitive magic. You were changed by this tower, yes? The wrong move could damage a lot more than just your pretty girl's hair."
"We have to know," Jynnia said, taking Trentley's hand. They both ignored the fact that the genie seemed to know exactly what they were talking about. "There's something up with that tower and now there's a lamp with a genie in it."
"Now that I know Jynnia's back to normal, I won't let this go," Trentley said. "Now, I wish to know what happened in the tower."
The genie bowed and clapped again, and another great boom split the air. Suddenly, out of nowhere, an object fell to the ground between Trentley and Jynnia and the genie.
 Trentley hurried toward it.
 "Be careful, Trentley," Jynnia said.
The genie watched him, his lips pressed into a thin line. "My dear boy, don't you know the old saying: If you are saved from the lion don't be greedy and hunt it?"
Trentley stopped before bending to pick the thing up, and looked the genie straight in the eye. "But, dear genie, don't you know the saying: If a wind blows, ride it?"
He grabbed the object, and was immediately thrown backward by the second rushing wind of the day.

Whew! What have Trentley and Jynnia gotten themselves into now? Guess you'll have to wait until
next month to find out. ;D In the meantime, go write your own flash fiction based on the Aladdin prompt! Remember, you can find the prompt here.

What do you think the object is that fell from the sky? Is it going to help Trentley and Jynnia or get them into even deeper trouble? How would you cope having sixty-foot hair for a week? xD And has anybody seen the new Aladdin movie yet?? Because I'm so excited to watch it!!
